How to use the site - and have a great holiday-rental holiday!

This site provides details of properties privately owned. If you have never rented directly from an owner we recommend that you read the points below, where we explain the use of the site and hopefully answer any questions you might have.

These are the questions covered:

  1. What will I find on this site?
  2. What is a Holiday Rental property?
  3. What are the best things about a Holiday Rental Holiday?
  4. What time of year should I go?
  5. Which searches should I use to find the property that is right for me?
  6. How do I make a shortlist of the properties I like?
  7. How do I contact the owner?
  8. How do I make a booking?
  9. What about travel arrangements?
  10. What should I do before I leave home?
  11. What happens when I arrive at the property?
  12. What if there is a problem during my holiday?
  13. What happens when I leave?

1. What will I find on this site?

All properties on this site are actual properties and not examples of what is available in the area. Full details and up to seven pictures can be found with each property. There is always a telephone number, usually an e-mail link, and often a fax number given of the contact person. You will either be contacting the owner of the property, his local agent, and in some cases a booking service.

2. What is a Holiday Rental property?

Holiday-Rental properties are usually fully-equipped, self-catering apartments or villas with full kitchen facilities, a living groom, bedrooms and bathrooms. We aim to have as wide a range of properties available throughout Spain.

3. What are the best things about a Holiday Rental Holiday?

We think the best things about Holiday Rentals are - value for money, freedom and privacy, and being a local not a tourist. Value for money: As you are often booking direct from the owner, you can get an extremely good deal. You can stay in a fully equipped home with your own living room, dining room and kitchen, not just a hotel bedroom. If you consider the number of people a property sleeps, and that the rates are usually for a week, the price per person per night, is often very low. Freedom & Privacy: The joy of staying in Holiday-Rental accommodation is the freedom it gives you - to eat when you like, dress how you like, do what you like, when you like. You have your own living space, not just a bedroom; a garden you can enjoy without thinking you should be gardening; and a kitchen you can use as much or as little as you like. This type of holiday is perfect for families, and especially enjoyable for people who travel on business and cannot bear the sight of another hotel room! Many properties provide maid service and even a cook - so Mothers get a holiday too! Be a local - not just a tourist:The joy of what the English call "self-catering" is that you can eat what you like when you like. Wake up and have breakfast when you want - not when the hotel thinks you should have it. Buy some cheese, meats, salad, and bread for an informal lunch. The owners of the property usually leave a guide to the best local shops. And for dinner you can either indulge your passion for cooking with fresh local ingredients - or you can eat in your choice of local restaurants. Again, the owners will usually recommend the best places - from haute cuisine to the local bistro. After a few days, the shop keepers and restaurateurs will start to recognise you - so you can really experience life as a local - not just a tourist.

4. What time of year should I go?

While it is always good to go on holiday in July and August, there are many benefits to going off-season, especially in the spring and autumn. The weather is good, but not too hot, the roads and facilities less crowded, and the costs of your accommodation and travel is less.

5. Which searches should I use to find the property that is right for me?

We have defined the searches as follows:

Property Area -> The province where the property is located
Property Type -> Choose between an apartment or villa or many other types of properties
Select Costa -> Choose the coast rather than the province
Price -> Select a price from and price to if you do not care about the area
Bedrooms -> Select the amount of bedrooms
Bathrooms -> Select the amount of bathrooms

6. How do I make a shortlist of the properties I like?

As you browse through the properties, you will be able to add properties to a shopping cart. When you are finished browsing you can select the relevant properties from the shopping cart. This way you can keep eliminating until you have found the right Holiday Rental for you. This way you do not have to print out all the pages. At any time, contact the owner to check if the availability is up-to-date and to answer any questions you may have.

7. How do I contact the owner?

All the properties on this site have an e-mail contact included with the property details. When you send an e-mail the advertiser will know that the e-mail originated from this site. Sometimes you might contact an agent who looks after the property on behalf of the owner.

8. How do I make a booking?

Every owner and or agent will have their own way of accepting a booking. Normally you will have to pay a deposit of 10 ? 50% when you make the reservation. Than you have to pay the remainder approximately 6 ? 8 weeks prior to arrival. You will always have to pay a security deposit, which will be returned at or after your departure less the cost of any breakages and metered charges for telephone and electricity if they are not included in the rates. Check the cancellation terms with the owner at the time of booking, there should be a balance between not paying for a holiday you do not take, and the owner not receiving rental for a period that they otherwise would have filled. We recommend that potential renters, or their agents, confirm all the terms of the proposed rental contract in writing in advance of the rental, and if feasible, also view the property in advance.

9. What about travel arrangements?

The owner will be able to advise you on your travel arrangements, including the best route from car ferry ports if you are driving. Also check out the travel and car hire deals on our web site.

10. What should I do before I leave home?

Make sure you have directions to the property and that you have clear instructions on arrival and who is going to let you in. And make sure you have the name and telephone number of some one on the spot who you can contact if anything goes wrong. If you have to pay a security deposit on arrival, this will be in cash, local currency, cheque, travelers-cheque or sometimes credit card. Make sure you have the means to pay the security deposit with you.

11. What happens when I arrive at the property?

Some owners send you a key in advance, some actually live on site and will meet you, and some arrange for some one to meet you at the property. Make sure you are given details of some one you can contact if something goes wrong. If you are delayed, it is courteous to inform the owner if you can.

12. What if there is a problem during my holiday?

If you have a problem, do get in touch straightaway with the person whose details you have been given. They have the local knowledge to sort things out on the spot. It is not worth suffering in silence, then complaining that you had a bad holiday. Now just relax and enjoy your holiday! Don't forget you are staying in some one's home - so treat it with respect.

13. What happens when I leave?

The owner or their representative should check you out of the property, and assuming there is no damage, will refund your security deposit, either on the spot or within a couple of weeks.
